Hitch-hike me far away from here

I feel awful. Terrible. Disappointed and misinformed.

I’ve had The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams on my “to read” list for years. Surprisingly my best friend bought it for me for Christmas and I was ecstatic to start it but unbeknownst to me; I would actually dislike it.

I won’t say “hate” because that’s a strong word but I can tell you I got maybe 30 pages in before I gave up. It’s wordy and at times trying so hard to be witty I was left just plain confused. I had to read sentences twice, then paragraphs over and even start again from the beginning of a page because I felt lost.

It’s my personal opinion but I don’t understand the hype behind this story, I won’t even bother to watch the movie because I already know it won’t be of interest to me.

It sucks, I thought I was going to be able to jump on the bandwagon with this one.

  1. Forget the movie. The movie really doesn’t do it justice at all. The book is really excellent. I remember the beginning being slow. Just skip through the parts you don’t like and move on to the next paragraph. Eventually it will be wonderful. (It is possible you don’t like the genre. But it is really a very, very funny book and also deep and philosophical.)

    1. I might give it a try again in the future. I did skip some chapters and tried to start again, it just wasn’t working with me. You’re right, I might not like the genre. I can’t particularly remember anything else I’ve read in it. Maybe I’ll give some others a shot and see how I feel.
